According to the surveys, almost 2,000 pounds, or 900 kilograms of steel, is used to make a car. About a third of that is used in the body structure and exterior, including the doors. Another 23% is in the drive train, and 12% is in the suspension. Also, advanced high-strength steels are made using complex processes lighter in weight than traditional steels and used in modern car body structures.
